Transparent LED screen – a new word in advertising and design art.

Transparent LED screens are a unique development of integrating partially transparent pixels onto a transparent plastic, glass or silicone substrate.

For the first time such a screen in 2012 was officially introduced by Samsung.

The transparency of such screens ranges from 30% to 70%; the latest developments allowed to get an LED screen with 80% transparency. Such a screen looks like a glass with a barely noticeable almost transparent mesh or a smooth transparent silicone pad with an almost transparent mesh.

Production technology

Transparent LED screens are divided into external and internal. Structurally, exterior and interior screens are slightly different.

Outdoor transparent LED screens

The main requirements for outdoor transparent LED displays:

• high brightness of 6000-10 000 cd / sq.m;

• moisture resistance;

• resistance to wind loads;

• UV protection;

• resistance to mechanical damage.

High brightness and protection in places well lit by sunlight, provide bright LEDs elongated.

Outdoor LED screens are manufactured using DIP technology: they place red (R), green (G) and blue (B) LEDs in a transparent case. To achieve greater brightness, 4 LEDs are placed in the case: 2 red, 1 blue, 1 green (2R1G1B). Thus it turns out the selected pixel.

The second design feature of the DIP technology is that the LEDs have long “legs”, and after soldering them to the conductive substrate, a gap remains between the diode and the substrate, which is filled with a waterproof sealant.

It can be a special glass-based glue or silicone.

Next, the pixels are covered with a gray light filter and a light filter that protects against ultraviolet radiation.

Outdoor LED displays are equipped with an additional protective film that protects against moisture and increases the mechanical strength of the screen.

Indoor transparent LED screens

The features of the internal transparent LED screens include:

• relatively small weight (compared to street);

• lower screen brightness less than 2000 cd / sq.m (usually 1500 cd / sq.m);

• the ability to use for the decoration of windows;

• internal transparent LED screens should have a small pixel pitch – no more than 10 mm (high resolution);

• large viewing angle of 1200;

• they do not need protection from moisture;

• no need to use UV filters.

Indoor LED displays are usually manufactured using SMD technology.

LEDs are not assembled into separate pixel enclosures, but integrated directly onto a conductive substrate. This allows you to significantly reduce the pixel pitch.

LEDs do not have long “legs”, so there can be no sealants between them and the substrate.

The top layer is a gray filter to create crisp, saturated colors.

The latest technology allows ultra-thin transparent screens.

In fact, such a screen is a very thin multi-layer structure, which consists of:

• substrate base;

• anode layer;

• conductive layer;

• emission layer – microscopic LEDs deposited on the conductive layer;

• cathode layer.
